Take on the Trades

FPDI

As many baby boomers retire, the trades industry is facing a severe worker shortage, and attracting new, diverse talent is a challenge. To address this, First Peoples' Development Inc. (FPDI) teamed up with Brandish to launch a campaign aimed at diversifying and expanding the workforce. With a federal grant mandating 5,600 new hires, including 1,900 from equity-deserving groups, the campaign targeted both employers and potential apprentices, emphasizing the benefits of hiring first-year apprentices and the career opportunities in the trades. The solution was the "Take on the Trades" tagline, which encouraged both employers to hire apprentices and prospective workers to enter the trades. The campaign’s tailored messaging led to a 300% increase in organic searches and a 9000% boost in website traffic. As a result, FPDI disbursed over $5 million, supporting over 700 applications, including 300 from equity-deserving groups, successfully diversifying and strengthening the trades industry.
